We've spent the first month of school successfully making the transition into 6th grade. We have already finished our first unit,
Prime Time. We explored factors, multiples, GCF, LCM, the Distributive Property, and much, much more!
Our next unit will be
Comparing Bits & Pieces.
Here's a quick summary from CMP3:
"Rational numbers are at the heart of the middle-grades experience with number concepts. The goal of Comparing Bits and Pieces is to help students deepen their understanding of equivalent fractions and build on this understanding as they explore ratios. They will become skillful at interpreting the different forms of a rational number, at knowing which form is most appropriate for the solution of a given problem, and at writing and interpreting ratios."
Please keep your eye out for the parent letter with a short unit introduction and topic list that was sent home on Thursday, October 2.
We will also begin using Tenmarks regularly. Tenmarks is online math practice used to practice skills and reinforce concepts learned in class. Each student has been assigned a unique username and password.
