Just wanted to check in to give a few updates...
Last week we started working with percents in class, and it went really well! We kept it very basic for the introduction, but we'll be exploring percents more in-depth toward the end of this unit!
This week we'll be starting to compute with decimals. We'll start the week with a refresher on adding and subtracting decimals and we're scheduled to have a quiz this Thursday, 11/20. After that, we'll dive into multiplying and dividing decimals. In order to divide with decimals, students must be fluent in long division. If you're looking for some practice at home, this would be a great skill to work on!
- Khan Academy has some great video tutorials as well as practice problems. https://www.khanacademy.org/math/arithmetic/multiplication-division/long_division/v/division-2
- IXL also offers some free online practice, but there is a daily limit. Here is one link to try: http://www.ixl.com/math/grade-5/division-with-decimal-quotients
Don't forget that TenMarks assignments are due EVERY Tuesday, unless otherwise noted. There is an assignment due this Tuesday, 11/18. TenMarks provides great reinforcement and practice, and also allows students to become comfortable working on the computer. Students can always work on a JamSession if they have finished their mandatory assignment and are looking for more practice.
